Backend Performance: Transaction Traces

Current Status:

Completed

We're trying to switch from NewRelic to Raygun.io.

NewRelic offers "Transaction Tracing" to drill down into backend code to trace down performance issues with a given request. It looks like some of this is supported in Raygun on the browser side, but I don't see options for wrapping a function in a Tracer to track how long a specific part of code is taking, for example, how long are my scripts spending in DB requests, etc.

Hi,

Thanks for posting this request. At present, the Raygun Platform offers:

  1. Crash Reporting
  2. Real User Monitoring (the Pulse product)

At this point, we do not offer a full APM product like the core New Relic offering where they charge per server. We are investigating what would be involved in adding such a product to the platform as I totally agree that it would be very helpful for digging deeper into software story (Raygun Pulse is a great replacement for New Relic Browser, and Crash Reporting is a great stand alone product, but we do not have the APM part at present).

Out of interest, can you post what server side language you're using? Tracing typically requires support at the language level, and we're conscious that support for each language will take a reasonable amount of effort. Any feedback about what your server side environment looks like would be helpful (please include this for anyone else responding to this thread!)

Hi cmoyer,

It's been awhile since you've requested APM for Node.js but we do support it now :) You can learn more about our support for it here and set up a 14-day free trial with us.

Our RUM and APM products work seamlessly together to give you a full picture of your application performance.

Python support for APM is still in development and we don't have an ETA on this as yet.

Thank you for your feature request.
