Questions about statuses

I have some questions about issue statuses:

  • Using "Resolve in Version" seems to mean to resolve all instances of an error in the specified version and previous versions. That makes sense but I'm not clear on what just "Resolve" does - does it resolve all instances of that error regardless of version?

  • Related to the above, I'm not clear what the effect of checking "Please discard any future occurrences which are not from newer versions". What is the result if I do or don't check it?

  • It sounds like the only difference between "Resolved" and "Ignored" statuses is just what the email notifications look like? Sort of just a semantic difference?

  • Can we assign certain users as read-only, meaning that they can't resolve errors, then restrict the resolve to a few key users?

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for contacting us about these questions.

  • "Resolve in Version" lets you specify a simple rule of whether or not you want that error group to be marked as active again if the exception reoccurs. If you mark the group as resolved in version 2.0, then when errors continue to occur in 2.0 or less, the error group will remain resolved and you won't be notified about it. This is because those errors are coming from users that are using an older version. When the error occurs in the next version however, the error group will become active again, indicating that it is not fully resolved in the latest version. "Resolve" does not have any relation to versions. If a resolved error reoccurs in any version, it will become active in your Raygun account again.
  • Checking the "Please discard any future occurrences which are not from newer versions" option, will mean that errors that are reported equal to or less than the version you marked it as resolved will be ignored, and the data for those error instances will not be stored. This is useful if you don't care about the error data from exceptions in an old version that you've already fixed, and so can keep your total error count lower to fit in your chosen plan. If you do not check that option, then data for errors in older version will be stored in your account.
  • "Resolved" and "Ignored" is mostly so that you personally can separate the issues that you have in fact resolved, and the issues that are either unsolvable or do not need to be resolved.
  • Currently it is not possible to mark users as read-only. This is something that we plan to look into in the future though.

Hope that helps explain things better. Please let us know if you have further questions.
