Smarter 'Ignore' error status controls for flexible alerting
Posted Feb 20, 2025 | 2 min. (341 words)We’ve heard your feedback and are excited to roll out an improvement to Raygun’s ‘Ignore’ error status functionality, which gives you more control over how and when you suppress errors.
What’s new?
You can now set ignore conditions on error groups, allowing you to automatically suppress errors until a certain threshold is met. Instead of manually filtering out noise or implementing workarounds in code, you can configure Raygun to ignore an error until it occurs X times in Y timeframe—no external counters or alerting hacks needed. This feature is inspired by direct feedback from customers who previously used similar functionality in other tools and found it essential for reducing alert fatigue. With this update, you’ll get:
- More flexibility: Ignore errors based on occurrence thresholds instead of just time-based suppression.
- Less noise: Focus on issues that truly need attention without losing visibility into error trends.
- Built-in efficiency: No need to implement external counters or custom alerting logic.
How it works
You can access this new feature inside the current ignore error modals available inside the app. Find these on the Crash Reporting dashboard, Error instance & Custom dashboard pages.
We have added support to allow users to specify whatever condition combination they require for their particular error group. This helps make this feature useful in a range of different scenarios.
Why this matters
A common challenge with error tracking is balancing visibility with signal-to-noise ratio. If an error occurs sporadically, you might not want to be alerted every single time. But if it happens 100 times in an hour, that’s a different story. With this enhancement, Raygun helps you filter out the noise while automatically catching important spikes in error activity.
