March Launch Notes: First paint metrics, Ruby APM release, and more
Posted Mar 30, 2020 | 3 min. (588 words)Raygun’s Launch Notes are your regular round-up of all the improvements we made to Raygun last month — from significant features to performance updates.
Real User Monitoring
First paint metrics and advanced visualizations are now live
Since Real User Monitoring first launched in 2015, Raygun has helped thousands of teams identify and resolve front-end performance bottlenecks impacting their customers. This release marked the support for user-centric performance metrics like first paint and first contentful paint, plus a new histogram and line graph to help visualize the full performance picture in a rich and actionable way.
Track deployments alongside page performance
Did a recent deployment cause a gradual increase in P90 load time? Now you can track your deployments alongside performance with the new deployment tracking functionality for RUM.
On the Performance page, hover over the deployment bar to reveal a breakdown of the deployments made on that day, then drill down into the performance breakdown on the line graph above. It’s a fast and effective way of getting the answers you need at a glance.
APM
Ruby support for APM
For the last couple of months, we’ve been busy beta testing Raygun APM for Ruby so that we can bring precise trace-level details to our Ruby customers.
The latest addition to Ruby APM is the GitHub integration. Ruby users will now be able to see the GitHub source of their methods from the flame-chart, making it easier to diagnose performance problems. Support for the GitHub integration for the Discover tab will be available soon.

The art of shipping and monitoring software with speed and confidence
Software teams are under increasing pressure to ship code faster than ever before, but without the right workflow and tools in place, this can introduce unnecessary risk and headache.
In this pre-recorded webinar, you’ll witness experts from Octopus Deploy and Raygun deploying software into production and monitoring the impact of these changes in real-time. Learn first-hand how to seamlessly configure deployments, identify issues, and track performance gains.
